(Microsoft Word doc)

The most common question we get from first time tournament software users is,
"Is it easy to run for a first time user?"
The answer is absolutely, YES!
(See
Testimonials below)

Bracketing with scoring to 4, 6, and 8 places for Windows 95/98. The DOS version has been used in Washington for 13 Years, scoring the State "*Mat Classic"* for 10 years. The Windows version has been used successfully for Washington's "Mat Classic" since 2000. "Mat Classic" is four levels (all 16-man brackets) of  High School Wrestling on 24 mats in the Tacoma Dome. Wrestling Tournament Manager was used successfully on Windows 2000 for the 2001 Washington 4A Region 1 championships. It was also was used successfully on Windows XP for the 2002 Kingco 4A tournament.
(Mat Classic 2001” was handled without problems this year. See results, htm files created by WTM 16, at: http://www.wawrestling.com/MatClassic/.)

Setup Screen for Wrestling Tournament Manager 8, 16 or 32 man bracket

(top)

The screen copy at the left is the first you will see when running the program.  The screen  has the tournament already set up. You may choose your tourney name, year, the schools and abbreviations, weight classes, and the buttons set up the Scoring points criteria, and the Mat-Times for each round or session.  Team entries are made in the boxes at the top and stored in the list below.  As you enter a team, you are then moved to the abbreviation, then back to the team until you click away to a menu or weight classes.  The program has the rulebook weights set at start  up.

The menus are not shown.  They allow movement to the Bracketing and Scoring, saving and opening files, and printing.  The printing includes the Mat-Time chart, teams and abbreviations and scoring criteria

Bracketing Screen for Wrestling Tournament Manager 8 man bracket

The screen at the right is the bracketing Screen.  All bracketing is done on this screen.    Notice the Names List, a Random Shaker, and the Seeded Bracket.   The screen also seems to be filled with other button and options.

Names Entry List -
You may enter names as you get them without seeding them in the bracket.  This could be done from a phone call.  Names are entered with their team abbreviation at the top with all names showing in the list below.

Random Shaker -
You may enter names into the Shaker or move them from the Names List or Seeded Bracket to the Shaker.  Clicking on [Random to Shaker] will send a random name from the Shaker to the selected Seed number.  At right, the click would send one of the two names to the 8th Seed.  You may also enter BYEs into the Shaker for draws.

Seeded Bracket -
You may type the names into the seeded Bracket or move them from the names list or shaker.  When moving names to the bracket set the arrow or Seed number.  Click on the seed number the arrow moves to that seed.  When typing names into the bracket the seed number moves as you press Enter. This way you can enter the names from top to bottom in the bracket.

Options -
You may send names from the names list by clicking on the option.  Currently double clicking a name in the names list would send it to the shaker.   Send from the Bracket - Currently double clicking a name in the bracket would send it to the names list.

Buttons -
Other buttons on the screen allow for many other changes and name movements. The menus are not shown. They allow changing weight classes, going to scoring and set up screens, filing, and print options. The print options include bout sheets (three types), wrestlers by team, brackets, ID cards, and the announcer's list.
Scoring menus have even more printing options available while scoring the tournament. Scoring is very easy. Enter the bout number, select the winner, and enter the bout score.
These Features allow you to set up the bracket all on one screen! You only type the name once!

Other Wrestling Tournament Manager Features   (top)

Windows/Menus, the program is now a regular Windows program. It is installed into a Start - Program folder. It has been nearly completely rewritten. It contains most of the same features as the old DOS programs with many new extras. New screens/windows are used for different parts of the program. Pull down menus and edit boxes are used throughout. Quick keys are available too. DOS operators will enjoy the changes but will have access to most of the same printing they are familiar with from DOS versions. Beginners will be surprised at how easy it is to bracket and score a wrestling tournament using this program.

Set up is now integrated into the total program, no more running the setup program and then changing to the scoring program. Select 4, 6, or 8 places for brackets and scoring. Up to 100 Teams and 30 Weight classes. Mat-Times entry prompts the normal session bout numbers for easy time set up. Change the Scoring criteria and place points. Normal rulebook scoring is already shown. Print Mat-Times, Scoring, weights and teams and abbreviations.

ID Cards (new): With 16 ID cards per page you can cut them out and place them in each school's packet. They are the perfect size for laminating pouches too. Use them for admission and even for ID at the weigh-in. You may choose the number of Coach and Manager cards for each team. Choose to print alternates too.

Bout Sheets; computer generated Half Page or Full Page. They are printed on blank paper, one or two to a page. You may also use a full page bout form as a choice when selecting bout sheet printing from Bracketing or Scoring.

Printing Features You may print Brackets, announcer's lists, wrestlers for each team, bout results by team, bout results by bout number, bout results by weight class, team scores, scores by weight and team in an array form, most pins, and place winners.

HTML files You may select to store brackets, team scores, and place winners to files with the HTML header and footer. All you need to do is copy them to the server and link them.

Wrestling Tournament Manager Testimonials   (top)

Thank you, your software was very helpful for our SPSL sub-regional wrestling tournament.
People were remarking about what a novelty is was to have all the sessions begin and end on time.
If help is needed at state, let me know. Thanks again.

Norm,
Thank you for creating the tournament software and shipping it to Surprise Lake Middle school in such a timely manner.  Our tournament
went very well in part to the ease at which we could operate due to the operation of your program.
With great appreciation,
          Ray Vankat
Wrestling Tournament Manager was easy to use and very intuitive. The announcers list enables the announcer to call the matches "on deck" and "in the hole" to keep the tournament running smoothly without having to hold the bout sheets so you can send them to the tables ahead of time. Small features like the ID Cards, which we had laminated, make the tournament 1st class. I had one wrestler tell me he kept all his ID cards from the tournaments he wrestled in and had them mounted. I loved being able to see the top seven team scores on the scoring screen as the tournament progressed. I ran my 1st tournament without any problems. And I even had our team manager entering the scores and printing the bout sheets. The ability to create HMTL files of the completed brackets enables fans everywhere to see the full story of the tournament and get the kind of complete results they want to see and quickly. At the Pacific Coast Championships this year, which used Wrestling Tournament Manager, we were able to post the results and complete brackets on the web after each round. I cannot imagine running a tournament without it!

Norm,
this is Tom Omli at Sacajawea Jr. High in Federal Way.  I just wanted to give you the message that the version of the program I used
last Saturday ran flawlessly.  It did everything we asked of it without any difficulty.  And on top of that our computer operator was a person
who had never been to a match, he learned all the operation from the handbook.
          Thanks, Tom
Norm,
We used your special 32 man program for the 17 team Muilenburg Tournament and the program ran perfectly.
We had 280 wrestlers and the program was fun and easy to use.  I also appreciated your willingness and
helpfulness in adapting the program to our tournament.
Thanks very much,
Fred

2001 Season and Updated Version Below Here

Norm, the program worked flawlessly. I had time to watch wrestling matches again! It was simple and easy to run. The line switching was easy. I was able to start the tourney on time, and stay ahead on bout sheets and brackets without worry. I used an Iomega zip drive for backup saves. That was way faster than using a floppy disk drive. All in all a very pleasant experience, with coaches and officials saying what a well run tournament we put on.

I like being able to put the kids on the bracket, and edit them there. The shaker came in handy a half dozen times, what with the new weigh-in rules affecting seeding in several brackets. Coaches had called with last minute changes, and I found it easy to move kids up from one weight class bracket to another. The alternates thing worked well, too, allowing us to enter non-scoring kids to fill out the brackets in the coaches meeting. Even with all the changes in the meeting, we were able to start the first match 23 minutes later!

Thanks for such a good program, and for all the help. Sixteen Plus is really sweet! Steve

Norm, just wanted to let you know how great the program worked. A bunch of coaches asked what made the tournament run so smooth this time. We normally get lots of compliments about the quality of the table help (my wife, her sister, and the people they have trained), but this was first time I felt we deserved praise for the computer work. The girls write down the match score from left to right, so it is easy for the coaches and refs to follow the order of moves as the match progressed. You can tell what happened and when all the way from the opening whistle.

Naturally, I told all the coaches and stats people that asked, that it was the program by that guy in Vancouver, Washington, Norm Friehauf. Over time, I think that will translate into more sales for you.

With the program, we had brackets out as soon as we had the last bout sheet in for each weight. We switched wrestlers on two weights and it was a snap. The scores followed the wrestlers, no problems! I will practice the pigtail/feather, and the BYE points procedures here at home. That way, if either comes up again, I will be able to show it on the array and bracket. Ah, the possibilities (with the comment after results having room to note such things)! Steve

New in 2005 from West Virginia - WOW! What a pleasant experience our tournament was. My husband and I usually dread the scoring (handwriting bout cards and using a spreadsheet for team scores). However, we actually look forward to scoring the Conference and Regional meets in February. The coaches loved being able to get a print out after each round. Also, it was easy to go in and make changes if necessary. We only had a handful of corrections (table workers circled the wrong winner).

We had 22 teams and several asked about the program. Hopefully, they will purchase a program from you. We printed out the info sheet for several of them.

Again, I thank you for getting the program and the manual to us so quickly.
We got the manual Sat. morning (today) as we were headed back to the tournament. We didn't even have to use it though!
Coach,

The tournament this weekend was a great success, due in no small part to your help. You'll get a day in heaven for this one. I promise to have a check in the mail to you this week. Thanks again for everything.

2001 Wrestling Tournament Manager Enhancements   (top)

  1. Added a screen which places the wrestlers in a top down list by seed rather than bracket order for easier placement.
  2. Allowed for more spaces after the wrestlers name and abbreviation to help with seeding.
for example;     John Smith (ELAK) S[3,6] R[1,2] 20-3
    (which would mean State 3rd and 6th, Regionals 1st & 2nd, and the win-loss record 20-3)
  3. Added a button which erases all this seeding information after seeding is completed.
  4. Added a chart showing the number of place winners for each school.
  5. Other miscellaneous improvements.
